MT. VERNON —
Ella Louis Lane, 84 years, 1 month and 16 days, of Mt. Vernon, died at 5:36 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at Nature Trail Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon.
She was born Tuesday, Sept. 25, 1928, in Tamms, daughter of Frank H. and Selma Louise (Endicott) Parker. She married Earl Edward Lane on July 26, 1947, in Bluford and he preceded her in death on April 24, 1976.
Ella completed nurse cadet training during World War II but fortunately was not called into active duty. She was a homemaker, loving wife, mother and grandmother, not only to her family but to kids in the Bluford area who lovingly thought of her as their own mother and grandmother. She loved singing gospel music and was a member of East Hickory Hill Missionary Baptist Church.
She is survived by daughters, LaDonna Meyers and husband Jeff of Mt. Vernon, Martha Michels and husband Jack of Winter Garden, Fla. and Diane Keip and husband Danny of Bluford; sister, Evelyn Davis of Casey; daughter-in-law, Vickie Lane Meyers and husband Frank of Charlotte, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; stepmother, Leona Parker; son, Larry Lane; brother, Frank Parker, Jr.; and sister, Norma Alley.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Gale Breeze officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hughey Funeral Home.
