Henry Beal, 89, of Dix passed away 1:05 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at White Oak Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon.
Henry was born in rural Mt. Vernon, on April 21, 1923, the son of Charles and Elta (Coriell) Beal. He married Virginia A. (Case) on Sept. 26, 1948, and she preceded him in death on May 24, 2011.
Henry was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of the Dix United Methodist Church. Henry was a honorary member of the Mt. Vernon FFA and a past member of the Illinois Farm Bureau. Henry served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.
He is survived by his son, Douglas Beal and wife Pam of New Oxford, Pa.; granddaughters, Courtney Beal and special friend Adam Brown and Katrina Beal both of Mt. Vernon; step-grandson, Cody Erb of New Oxford, Pa.; three great-grandchildren, Olivia Brown, Ryegan Warren and Maxsen Tiemann; one sister-in-law, Janette Alvis of Mt. Vernon; several nieces and nephews; and a special grand-dog, Chance Beal.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia A. Beal; granddaughter, Cassandra Beal; three brothers, Roy Beal and wife Ruby, Frank Beal and wife Isabel and Homer Beal and wife Etheln; two sisters, Florence and husband Wilbur Tate and Flossie Tate and husband Lewis; infant sister, Henrietta Beal; brother-in-law, Maxey Case and wife Lou; and a brother-in-law, James Alvis.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Pastor John Ashby officiating. Burial will follow at the Jordan Chapel Cemetery in Texico with military honors provided by American Legion Post 141 in Mt. Vernon.
Friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
