Former Wayne City resident, Lester Lee Webber, age 88, died at 1:17 a.m. at Crossroads Community Hospital on Dec. 31, 2012.
Lester, or as he was commonly known, “Double L” or “Lec” was born on Oct. 25, 1924, to Keenes, to area farmers, Homer and Francis Wood Webber. Lec grew up in the Keenes area and graduated from Wayne City High School in 1942. During World War II, he enlisted in the Navy and proudly served in the Pacific.
On Dec. 20, 1047, Lec married Eva M. Matthews in Morganfield, Ky. To their union, they added Stephen Dale (1951) and Jon Alan (1953).
Lec was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, his wife Eva on July 17, 1996, and son Stephen on Nov. 2, 2011.
Lec is survived by his brother, James R. Webber (Faith) or Ft. Wayne, Ind.; daughter-in-law, Mary Crawford Webber (Stephen) of Ft. Collins, Colo.; and son, Jon Alan Webber (Delana) of Culver City, Calif. Lec also leaves behind three grandchildren, Adam Webber of Ft. Collins, Colo.; Ashley Webber Mauch (James) of Thornton, Colo.; Brittany Webber of Culver City, Calif.; and one great-grandson, Maddox Morer of Ft. Collins, Colo.; as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
During his lifetime, Lec worked as a farmer, railroad mechanic and a construction worker. Lec was a Christian and attended the Wayne City Christian Church and Keenes Christian Church.
Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 1, at Richardson Funeral Home, with funeral services being held at the Keenes Christian Church at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, follwed by the burial at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City.
