Betty Lee Danner, 85, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 11:22 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.
She was born Thursday, April 7, 1927, in Mt. Vernon, to Bernays “Nip” Young and Ledlie (Johnson) Young Webb.
She married Robert Sherwood Danner on March 2, 1947, in Mt. Vernon. He preceded her in death on June 8, 2006.
Betty assisted her husband Sherwood with the daily operation of the family farm, remaining active on the farm until her death. She was very proud that the farm was recognized as a Centennial farm. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who daily filled her life with caring for and loving her “babies.” Additionally, she was a 4-H leader, PTA officer, Home Extension member and officer, and DAR member. In her 70s she enjoyed being a reading tutor for third grade students at Woodlawn Grade School. As a life- long member of the First Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon she was active in many aspects of her church community.
She is survived by three children, Dr. Linda Lee Upchurch and husband Dr. James D. Upchurch of Mt. Vernon, Robert Stephen Danner and wife Jan of Woodlawn and John L. Danner and wife Pam of rural Mt. Vernon; seven grandchildren, Scott Danner and wife Ginny, Jamie Gordon and husband Ben, Lee Ann Ferrell and husband Nate, Lori Beth Davidson and husband Matt, Nicole Pool and husband Matt, Jacqueline Bailey and friend Bob Hicks and Thomas Upchurch and wife Julie; 11 great-grandchildren, Ashlynn DePew, Danner and Jonah Ferrell, Elyssa and Landon Danner, Brynn Gordon, Maya Pool, Michelle Bailey, and John, Shawn and Jessica Upchurch.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at First Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Ryan Burge officiating. Interment will follow at New Shiloh Cemetery in Jefferson County.
Visitation will be fron 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon.
