Mada Loudean Turrentine, 84, of Mt. Vernon, died 1:40 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Mt. Vernon Health Care Residential Living Center in Mt. Vernon.
She was born Saturday, Sept. 1, 1928, in West Frankfort, daughter of Clarence and Hazel (Hood) Johnson. She married Charles Turrentine on Dec. 22, 1948, in West Frankfort. He preceded her in death on Dec. 10, 1982.
Mada worked as a secretary in the Mt. Vernon Township High School Vocational Office. She was an avid Mt. Vernon Rams basketball fan. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by daughter, Judy Turrentine of Phoenix; son, Kevin Turrentine and wife Donnell of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, Kaelin Turrentine and wife Taylee of Mt. Vernon, Kameron Turrentine of Mt. Vernon and Karleigh Turrentine of Mt. Vernon; brother, Don Johnson of Bettendorf, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Paul Johnson; and two sisters, Helen Carter and Shirley Mincher.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Dr. Ryan Burge officiating. Interment will be at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
