Robert Lewis Tate, 61, of Texico, died at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at his home.
He was born on Aug. 20, 1951, in DuQuoin, the son of Robert E. and Mildred (Eubanks) Tate. On April 24, 1978, in Mt. Vernon, he married Betty Jo Hardin, and she survives.
Mr. Tate served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. After leaving the military, he worked in maintenance.
In addition to his wife, Betty Tate of Texico, he is survived by his mother, Mildred Tate of Texico; a son, Robert Lewis Tate II of Texico; three daughters, Kim Tate of Mt. Vernon, Lindi Richards and husband Jason of Belle Rive and Kellie Tate of Carterville; two grandchildren, Andrew and Sydney Richards; and two sisters, Gaye Piercy and husband Greg of Texico and Sherry Baker and husband Richard of DuQuoin.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert E. Tate and a sister, Vickie Rider.
Funeral services for Mr. Tate will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Jack Lucas officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 141 of Mt. Vernon.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix.
