Lottie M. Mays, 85, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Monday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor.
Mrs. Mays was well known in the community as she had worked for many years at G.C. Murphy Company, starting as a stock clerk while in high school and retiring as store manager. She then worked for several years at First Bank & Trust. In addition, Mrs. Mays was very active at Epworth Methodist Church where she was a lifelong member.
Lottie was born Sept. 23, 1927, in Jefferson County to Erie and Jewel (Stonecipher) Frost. She married Robert G. Mays on Dec. 25, 1953, in Mt. Vernon. He preceded her in death on Aug. 16, 1995.
Mrs. Mays is survived by two sons, Rev. David Mays and wife Connie of Logan and Charles Mays and wife Becky of Woodlawn; grandchildren, Adam Mays and wife Erin of Mt. Vernon, Traci Barnett and husband Mark of Kissimmee, Fla., Jeremy Mays and wife Jessica of Mt. Vernon, Charity Shapiro and husband Steve of Belleville, Angela Hoyt and husband of Matt of Red Bluff, Calif., Lydia Morse and husband Jeremy of Edwardsville; and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Steven Dwayne Mays; her parents; twin sister, Dottie; and two brothers, Jimmie Frost and Paul Stonecipher.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home with the Rev. Bud Storey officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
