MT. VERNON — — Robert Leroy “Bob” Winder, 85, of Mt. Vernon, died 10:46 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at his home.

He was born Monday, Feb. 22, 1926, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Moses Ralph and Jewel Edra (Hanley) Winder. He married Cecilia R. Ruiz on Feb. 22, 1974, in Reno, Nev. and she preceded him in death on April 18, 2010.

Bob served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 25 years, during the eras of World War II, Korea and Vietnam, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. He later worked for Royal Wholesale in Mt. Vernon for 13 years. He was a member of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141, the Fleet Reserve and was of the Protestant faith.

He is survived by children, Richard Winder and wife Juanita of Carriere, Miss., Robert Winder of San Franciso, Calif., Michael Winder and wife Andrea of Luffkin, Texas, Diane Sue Jaeger and husband Julian of Arkadelphia, Ark., and Carrie Jane Winder and husband Peter Ruseski of San Diego, Calif.; stepsons, Charles McCusker and wife Carol of Las Vegas, Nev., George McCusker of San Diego, Calif., Wayne McCusker and wife Patricia of Sun Valley, Calif., Raymond McCusker of San Diego, Calif., and Michael McCusker of Riverside, Calif.; and brothers, Charles Raymond Winder and wife Ruth of Wimberly, Texas, and Harold R. Winder and wife Barbara of Woodlawn. Fifty-three grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Rev. Harold Winder officiating. Mr. Winder will be cremated following the evening funeral service.

Visitation will be from 5 to service time 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hammock Cemetery in Springerton. Members of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141 will conduct full military honors at the cemetery.
