Ruth Waud

MT. VERNON — Ruth Linn Waud, 96, of Mt. Vernon, and late of Hoover, Ala., died on July 8, 2010, at Galleria Woods Retirement Community in Hoover, Ala.

She was a homemaker and served with her husband, who was a Baptist minister for over 50 years.

Born Oct. 2, 1913, in Mt. Vernon, she was the daughter of Edward and Anna Juretta (Maxey) Linn. She married Gilbert Burton Waud on Aug. 29, 1938.

She is survived by a son, Dr. William Robert Waud and wife Diane of Birmingham, Ala.; a grandson, Edward Robert Waud of Alexandria, Va.; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Waud Luke and husband Geoff of Birmingham, Ala.; and three nephews, Jimmy Linn of Indianapolis, Ind., Doug Linn and wife Nancy of Mt. Vernon and Mark Linn of Mt. Vernon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Harold, Harmon and Marvin; and a sister, Doris.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Jefferson County with the Rev. Chuck Ellis officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Dr. Gilbert and Ruth Waud Scholarship Fund, Baptist Foundation of Illinois, P.O. Box 19247, Springfield, IL 62794-9247, and will be accepted at the funeral home, the cemetery or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt Vernon, IL 62864.

    Willie J. "Bill"  Ellis, 85, of Du Quoin and a former resident of Mt. Vernon died 1:45 a.m. Wednesday,  Feb. 8, 2012 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
    Willie was born September 5, 1926  in Lilbourn, Missouri, the son of John E. and Alice Myrtle (Hicks) Ellis. He first married Edna M. (Crunk) on Sept. 3, 1951 in Piggott, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on Oct. 26, 1990. He later married Lorene (Porro) O'Rourke on Feb. 14, 1993, in Du Quoin,  IL. She survives in Du Quoin.

    Zella A. Payne, 96, of Dahlgren, died 3 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, at Hamilton Memorial Nursing Center in McLeansboro.
    She was born Sept. 19, 1915, in Jefferson County, the daughter of George W. and Emma Jane (Page) Capps. She married Harry Payne May 29, 1933; he preceded her in death May 11, 1977.

    Vera M. Gilliam, 93, of West Frankfort, died 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at West Side Rehabilitation and Care Center in West Frankfort.
    She was born Monday, Oct. 14, 1918, in Benton, the daughter of Jarvis and Callie (Harris) O’Neal. She married Russell A. wicks on Feb. 22, 1942; he preceded her in death July 7, 1979. She married Myron Dale Gilliam on Nov. 11, 1980; he preceded her in death on Dec. 26, 2011.
