Michael Eugene Pilson, 63, of Wayne City, died at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center Nursing Home in Marion.
He was born Monday, Sept. 26, 1949, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Donie Hugh and Dorothy Lorene (Hands) Pilson. He married Hazel Alene Taylor on June 11, 1980, in Mt. Vernon and she preceded him in death on Nov. 27, 2007.
Michael served in the U.S. Army from Oct. 28, 1969, to Oct. 26, 1971, stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War. He later worked at the Mt. Vernon Stove Foundry, was a coal miner in McLeansboro and retired after employment with Defenders Industries at Continental Tire in Mt. Vernon.
He is survived by brother, Steven Dewayne Pilson and wife Cathy of Belle Rive; sister, Phyllis Ann Spotanski and husband Garry of Scheller; stepson, Jerry Don Peyton and wife Anita of Enfield; stepdaughters, Tena Rednour of Mt. Vernon and Ronda Brookman and husband Lyle of Bluford; stepbrothers, William Odell Lovin, Jr. and wife Sharon of Benton City, Wash. and David Leonard Lovin and wife Cathy of Irrigon, Ore.; stepsister, Anita June Murphy of Oregon; nephew, Brandon Spotanski of Nashville, Tenn.; nieces, Jessica Pilson, Angela Morgan and Jennifer Essary of Belle Rive, Tara Biggerstaff and Tracey Spotanski of Nashville and Tiffany Kluck of Scheller; grandchildren, Greg Rednour of Nashville, Michael Rednour of Mt. Vernon, Jarod Dean Peyton of Wayne City, Shelby Leigh Peyton, Riley Renee Peyton and Rachael Renee Peyton of Enfeld, Teresa Lynn Hails and Danielle Nicole Thompson of Bluford, Emily Ann Brookman of Waltonville and Ethan Cole Brookman of Bluford; ten great-grandchildren; six great-nephews; and three great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his stepfather, William Odell Lovin; and stepdaughter, Teresa Peyton.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday at Archie L. Sanders Memorial Chapel in Wayne City with Pastor Kent Hails officiating. Interment will be at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City. Members of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141 will conduct full military honors at the cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
