MT. VERNON —
Donna Jo Shirrell, 68, of Dix and formerly of Benton, died at 11:25 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at the St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at the Leffler - Poulson Funeral Home of Benton, with the Rev. John Ashby officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton. Visitation will be Monday from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour at the Leffler - Poulson Funeral Home of Benton.
Donna was born on May 21, 1944, the daughter of James and Mabel (McDonald) Blagg. She married Franklin D. Shirrell on May 1, 1982, and he survives.
Mrs. Shirrell was a retired case worker from the Illinois Department of Human Services Jefferson County office in Mt. Vernon. She was a member of the Panther Fork Baptist Church of Texico. Donna also served her country in the United States Navy and Marines Corps.
She is survived by her husband Franklin D. Shirrell of Dix; three step-children, Sheila and husband Larry Scrivner of Mt. Vernon, Brian Shirrell of Illinois and Rebecca and husband Shane Tyler of West Frankfort; three grandchildren, Adam Jolly, Samantha Scrivner and Alexis Scrivner; and one sister, Sandra Kay Stevens of DuQuoin.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
