William Leonard “Snake” Greene, 90, of Lawrenceburg, Ind., formerly of Mt. Vernon, died 5:43 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg, Ind.
He was born Wednesday, July 12, 1922, in Mt. Vernon, son of William O. and Vesta M. (Miller) Greene. He married Helen Soma on Nov. 28, 1948, in Morganfield, Ky. She preceded him in death on Sept. 26, 1999.
Snake served our country in the United States Marine Corps in World War II. He worked as a Midwest marketing manager for Curtis Industries in Cleveland. Snake was a member of the Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge 31 AF&AM, Andrew D. Webb Chapter 160, Patton Commandery Knights Templar 69, Ainad Shrine Temple of East St. Louis, the Jefferson County Shrine Club and the Mt. Vernon Moose Lodge 755. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 141 and the Mt. Vernon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1376. Snake was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by niece, Terri L. Greene-Huntman and husband Don of Mt. Vernon; nephew, Gary Greene and wife Earlene of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; special companion, Marcine Frank; her son, Brad Frank; and her daughter, Beverly Toon and husband Dan, all of Lawrenceburg, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brother, Bob “BG” Greene.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at East Hickory Hill Cemetery in Bluford with Chaplain Ernie Collins officiating. Interment will be at East Hickory hill Cemetery in Bluford.
In honor of Snake’s request, no public visitation will be held.
