MT. VERNON — —
Jeffrey Oram Ashby, 52, of Mt. Vernon, died at 9:38 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born Wednesday, May 18, 1960, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Oram and Romona W. (Taylor) Ashby.
Jeffrey worked for Phillips Sign Company and Cox Sign Company and later worked as a custodian for Field Grade School. He enjoyed many activities, including sky diving, deer hunting, traveling and teasing people. He loved candy and cars and admirably cared for his mother after the death of his father. Jeffrey was a member of Southside Baptist Church.
He is survived by wife, Dr. Carol Gephart of Mt. Vernon; brothers, Gary B. Ashby and wife Paulette of Bonnie and Rev. John E. Ashby and wife Nancy of Mt. Vernon; sister, Monda Sheff of Mt. Vernon; aunts, Pat Ashby of Mt. Vernon and Della Novak of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and great-nephew, Jason Sheff.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Randy Hayes officiating. Interment will be at Laird Cemetery in Jefferson County.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
For those who wish, memorials may be given to the Furry Friends Animal Shelter and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
