MT. VERNON — —
Charles Walter Downey, 72, of Mt. Vernon, died 2:15 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at White Oak Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon.
He was born Tuesday, Aug. 6, 1940, in Henry, the son of Walter Chester and Anna Mae (Daniels) Downey. He married Delores A. Williams Aug. 21, 1960, in Mt. Vernon; she survives in Mt. Vernon.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Paula Nave and husband Michael of Mt. Vernon and Amy Downey of Mt. Vernon; seven grandchildren, Amber Labrie and husband Robert of Bluford, Kerianna, Nissa, Elana and Cecilia Nave, all of Mt. Vernon and Tessa Charlene England and Molley England of Mt. Vernon; five great-grandchildren, Malachi, Carrie, Emily and Joran Labrie of Bluford and Johnovan Pisula of Mt. Vernon; a sister, Charlotte Arlene Cross of Warrenton, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, William.
Charles was a maintenance foreman for Dowzer Electric in Mt. Vernon for 35 years, was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed his family and could fix anything.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn with Brother Art Dodson officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of services on Wednesday in the Chapel at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.
For those who wish, memorials may be given to the Sarcoma Foundation of America and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
