MT. VERNON —
James F. Walker, 74, of Springfield, passed away Friday evening, Nov. 30, 2012, at North Church Nursing & Rehab in Jacksonville. He was born Nov. 26, 1938, in Mt. Vernon the son of James N. and Evelyn L. Connaway Walker.
He is survived by his mother, Evelyn Walker of Mt. Vernon; one sister, Janet (husband, Kenneth) Bradley of East Moline; one nephew, Christopher Lee of Carbondale; one niece, Andrea (husband, Chris) Smith of Frederick, Md.; one great niece, Abbey Lee Girardeau of Savannah, Ga., and his close friend, Lorraine Reynolds of Springfield. He was preceded in death by his father and one nephew, Anthony Lee.
Mr. Walker graduated from Mt. Vernon Township High School, SIU-Carbondale, and received a master’s degree at UNC-Chapel Hill, NC. He served two years with the Public Health Service, U.S. Dept. of Health, Education & Welfare and retired from the Illinois Department of Public Health, as a statistician. He was a licensed pilot for single engine aircraft and had his commercial rating. He was a flight and ground school instructor and was a founding director and charter member #26 of the Illinois Pilot’s Association. He was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association. He loved anything to do with a motor, especially his Piper Cherokee N6147W.
A private service will be held. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice. Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be left online at www.airsman-hires.com.
