Curtis Lowell “Red” Neal, 76, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Saturday evening, Dec. 8, 2012, at his home.
He was born in Jefferson County on May 1, 1936, the son of Curtis Ray and LaFue Viretta “Slim” (Cockrum) Neal.
Mr. Neal was retired from Ameren and farming.
He was an Army veteran, serving in Korea. He was a member of the VFW and a member of the Sugar Camp Missionary Baptist Church.
He is survived by daughters, Melinda Jane Liddle and husband Jole of Salem, Bridgitte Kae Pepple and husband Rod of Bluford and Tina Rae Tepovich and husband Tony of Nason; grandchildren, Robert Brant Visser of Mt. Vernon, Gaven Liddle of Salem, Shayne DeJournett of Bluford, Austin Pepple of Bluford, Cheyanne Pepple of Bluford, Derek Tepovich and wife Jamie of Idaho and Blake Tepovich of Nason; great-grandson, Carson Lee Spears of Salem; sister, Carleen Pierce and husband Jerry of Mt. Vernon; and brother, Mike Neal of Ina.
Mr. Neal was preceded in death by his parents and three grandchildren, Lindsey Brooke Visser, Kaci Elizabeth Visser and Tyler Ray DeJournett.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Johnston Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Kenneth Holland officiating. Burial with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 141 will be in Hope Cemetery in Ina. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Johnston Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
