Martha M. Downes, 58, of Centralia, died at 2:15 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at her home.
She was born on May 23, 1954, in Centralia, the daughter of Eddie and Martha (Ogle) Casner. She married Wilbert Harold Downes Sr. in Centralia on Aug. 11, 1973, and he survives.
In addition to her husband Wilbert, Martha is survived by two sons, Jim Downes and fiancée Tina of Centralia and Wilbert Downes Jr. and wife Tressie of Woodlawn; four daughters, Leah Casconi and husband Pete of Dallas, Becky Downes, Billie Jean Downes and Shakina Downes, all of Centralia; two brothers, Joseph Casner and wife Clarice of Potsi, Mo. and Dwayne Casner of Kansas; two sisters, Becky Long and Berthema Caswell, both of Kansas; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and also several nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Lee Kerns and Dorene Caswell.
Martha was a member of the Wamac Missionary Baptist Church and was a very faithful person who enjoyed going to church. She loved cooking and canning and most of all spending time with her family. She was a homemaker and housewife and had also worked as a caregiver for the elderly and had babysat before failing health.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at the Wamac Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Holsapple officiating. A potluck fellowship will follow for family and friends at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Wamac Missionary Baptist Church and will be accepted at the Irvin Funeral Home, who is in charge of arrangements.
