Joseph R. “Joey” Fahrenholtz, 45, of Mt. Vernon, died 4:45 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at his home in Mt. Vernon with his family by his side.
He was born Monday, Dec. 4, 1967, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Donald G. and Thelma (Walker) Fahrenholtz. He married Jennifer S. Scott on Oct. 1, 1994, in Mt. Vernon.
Joey is survived by his mother, Thelma Fahrenholtz of Mt. Vernon; his wife, Jennifer S. Fahrenholtz of Mt. Vernon; a daughter, Haydan N. Fahrenholtz of Mt. Vernon; a son, Reid J. Fahrenholtz of Mt. Vernon; a brother, Dr. William G. Fahrenholtz and wife Jill of Rolla, Mo.; an aunt, Kathy Tibbs-Massey and special friend Mick Hynes of Orlando, Fla.; three nieces, Baileigh Scott of Centralia and Madison and Abigail Scott of Texico; four nephews, Karl and Eric Fahrenholtz of Rolla, Mo., and Logan and Lincoln Scott of Texico; two brothers-in-law, Greg Scott and wife Shana of Mt. Vernon and Shawn Scott and wife Hope of Texico; and a mother-in-law and father-in-law, Andy and Janet Scott of Texico.
His father, Donald G. Fahrenholtz, his grandparents and an infant sister, Carol Elizabeth Fahrenholtz, preceded him in death.
Joey was known for his dedication toward helping others and his great sense of humor. He was a sales rep and manager for Pepsi Co., and Allied Waste from 1991 to 2000 and was a self-employed carpenter from 2000 until failing health in October 2012. He donated his time and energy to the sports programs at the YMCA and JCSA, he was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and Mt. Vernon Rams supporter. He attended Central Christian Church in Mt. Vernon. By the grace of God and Alcoholics Anonymous he enjoyed the last 11 years of his life in continuous sobriety.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Central Christian Church in Mt. Vernon with Mr. Marty Mills and the Rev. Benton Fitzjerrells officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, at Central Christian Church in Mt. Vernon.
For those who wish, memorials may be given to the Haydan & Reid’s College Education Fund at Edward Jones or to the JCSA (Jefferson County Sports Authority), and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
