Bonnie Ferrell Smith, 76, of Mt. Vernon, died 5:02 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at her home in Mt. Vernon.
She was born Saturday. Jan. 4, 1936, in Carmi, daughter of Luther Edward and Mary Lucille (Graves) Medlin. She married Charles Howard Smith on April 1, 1956, at Summersville Baptist Church in Jefferson County.
Bonnie was a homemaker and a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
She is survived by husband, Charles Howard Smith of Mt. Vernon; three children, Connie Sue Owens and Jim Owens of Mt. Vernon, Garold Michael Smith of Mt. Vernon and Troy Howard Smith of Mt. Vernon; seven grandchildren, Matthew Owens and Mallory of Champaign, Jamie Sue Owens of Mt. Vernon, Douglas Paul Owens of Mt. Vernon, Lindsay Marie Smith of Mt. Vernon, Jarrod Edward Smith and Jeannie McDermott of Mt. Vernon and Joshua Troy Smith of Mt. Vernon; sisters, Donna Sue Clifton of Mt. Vernon and Linda Kay Mulligan and husband Jerry of The Villages, Fla.; nine great-grandchildren, Peyton Owens of Mt. Vernon, Kylon, Jude and Jayslon Shipp of Mt. Vernon, Remy and Gracyn Owens of Mt. Vernon, Ava Selby of Mt. Vernon, Reece Currie of Mt. Vernon and Chance Smith of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two grandsons, Jason Smith and Michael Joseph Paul Smith; and sister, Barbara Joy Walker.
Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at East Salem Cemetery in Jefferson County with the Rev. Mark Dye officiating. Interment will be at East Salem Cemetery in Jefferson County.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
