MT. VERNON —
Roy Glen Timmons, 81, of Centralia, passed away at 9:10 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Fireside House in Centralia.
He was born on Feb. 24, 1931, in Kaneville, the son of Glen and Hallie (Walker) Timmons. He was married to Mary Burkett, and later, on June 30, 1979, he married Doris White, who survives him in Centralia.
Mr. Timmons served for three years in the United States Army, in the Korean War, from Jan. 30, 1951, until Jan. 29, 1954, as a medic. He graduated from Woodlawn High School, and was a member of Greenview Christian Church in Centralia. He worked for Valley Steel and IC Car Shops.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Timmons of Centralia; five children, Hubert "Hugh" Timmons and wife Vivian of San Marcos, Texas, Jeanne Timmons of Charles City, Iowa, Nancy Williams of Charles City, Iowa, Holly Timmons of Charles City, Iowa, and Brent White and wife Karen of Custer, S.D.; grandchildren, Caleb and Evan Williams of Charles City, Iowa, Everett Timmons and wife Emily of Austin, Texas, Aaron Timmons and wife Kady of San Marcos, Texas, Kevin Timmons and Arielle Evans of Alamogordo, N.M., and Connor Reaney of Mt. Vernon; brothers and sisters-In-law, Phil Soger, Bill and Marilyn Lamb, Bob and Jean Grott, and Jerry Pierce; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Norma Jean Soger; and his stepmother, Martha Timmons.
Funeral services for Mr. Timmons will be held at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix at 11 a.m. Saturday with Claude Howell officiating. Burial will follow at Boyd Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 141, of Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Greenview Christian Church or to New Horizon Christian School, and will be accepted at the Osborn Funeral Home, P.O. Box 130, Dix, Illinois 62830.
