Mary Ellen Ard, 90, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois passed away 7:21 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
Mary was born Oct. 2, 1922, in rural Naomi, Ky., a daughter of Carl and Lillie Alice (Daws) Scrimager. Mary Ellen married Milburn Edison “Ed” Ard on April 4, 1942, and he preceded her in death on March 18, 2008.
She is survived by her son, Ralph Ard and wife Lea Ellen of Mt. Vernon; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Clifford Scrimager and wife Susie of Bement, and Denver Scrimager and wife Phyllis of Urbana.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ed Ard; daughter, Shirley Muse; one grandson, six brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services for Mary Ellen Ard will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with brother Richard McCormick officiating. Interment will follow at Harmony Cemetery in Bluford. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.
