Joyce Lynn Poorman, 68, of Woodlawn, passed away at 8:25 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at her home in Woodlawn.
She was born Thursday, June 1, 1944, in Mt. Vernon, to Dr. William and Virginia (Emerson) Grant.
She married Harold “Pup” Poorman on Feb. 10, 1962, in Mt. Vernon.
Joyce owned and operated J.P. Trophies in Woodlawn along with her husband Harold “Pup” Poorman; she was co-founder of Jefferson County Operation Iraqi Freedom, for which she received the American Soldier Award presented by Sen. John O. Jones. She attended West Long Prairie Christian Church and was active in church functions. She was a member of the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, Delta Theta Tau Sorority Woodlawn Chapter, the Business & Professional Women (B.P.W.) of Mt. Vernon and dedicated volunteer of Chapman Sports Complex. Joyce was awarded Senior Saint and 2009-2010 Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Harold “Pup” Poorman of Woodlawn; two sons, Bryan Poorman and wife Vikki of Washington and Troy Poorman and wife Amy of Woodlawn; two daughters, Robyn Sumner and husband Robert of Bluford and LaDonna Martin and husband Dennis of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Bryanna Poorman, Hunter Poorman, Arianna Poorman, Trevor Poorman, Taylor Poorman, Corey Sumner and Ashley Martin; a brother, James Grant and wife Roselyn of Bonnie; and one niece and one nephew also survive.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, in the chapel at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn with James McKinzie officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
