MT. VERNON —
William E. “Bill” Johnson, 86, of McLeansboro, died at 3:40 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.
He was born on July 20, 1926, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., the son of William M. Johnson and Fern (Goble) Johnson. He married Mildred “Millie” Ida Miller on April 9, 1947, in Piopolis, and she survives in McLeansboro.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Karen Rapp and husband Michael of McLeansboro, Marion Keith Johnson and wife Susan of Dahlgren, Kathy S. Pryer and husband Charlie of McLeansboro, and Karol A. Bond and husband Greg of Villa Ridge, Mo.; nine grandchildren, Matthew Rapp and wife Bonnie, Justin Rapp and wife Melissa, Jared Pryer and wife Melissa, Christopher Johnson and wife Ashley, Anthony Johnson, Marcus, Jordan and Landon Bond, and Erika Lasater and husband Michael; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Joy Hartle of Salisbury, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Johnson was an automobile salesman and trucker. He as a member of P.J.'s Cafe Coffee Club and St. Clement's Catholic Church in McLeansboro. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Greg Bond officiating. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 106. Interment will be in St. Clement's Catholic Church Cemetery.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
