Genevieve Swafford, 78, of McLeansboro, died 2 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2013, at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi.
She was born Oct. 20, 1934, in McLeansboro, the daughter of Cyril and Lula (Glenn) Hassett. She married Marvin Swafford on July 18, 1953, and he survives.
She worked as a C.N.A. at Hamilton Memorial Nursing Center for many years. She was a member of St. Clements Catholic Church in McLeansboro.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin Swafford of McLeansboro; son, Anthony (Cheryl) Swafford of Danville; daughters, Cathy (Fred) McCormick of Greenville, Ind. and Gena (Daniel) Vanabbema of McLeansboro; siblings, Ruth Ann (Bill) Smith of Johnston City and James (Jackie) Hassett of Winthrop Harbor; six grandchildren, Lindsay (Kyle) Arndt, Mitchell Swafford, Tiffaney (Eric) Taylor, Chris (Christy) McCormick, Catlin Vanabbema and Kyle Vanabbema; and three great-grandchildren, Abbey, Madisyn and Briley McCormick.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Clements Catholic Church in McLeansboro with Father Slawomir Ptak conducting the funeral mass. Interment will be at St. Clements Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with a rosary service at 7 p.m.
For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Wabash Christian Retirement Center and will be accepted at Gholson Funeral Home.
