Donald G. Avery, 73, of Opdyke, died 4:04 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.
He was born Monday, July 31, 1939, in Bragg City, Mo., son of Owen and Irene (Parkins) Avery. He married Wanda Schwenninger on Oct. 5, 1962, in Opdyke.
Don was retired from working for Lipps Construction in Mt. Vernon.
He is survived by wife, Wanda Avery of Opdyke; son, Mike Avery and wife Shannon of Opdyke; daughter, Melissa Hubbard and husband Brian of Mt. Vernon; four grandchildren, Amelia and Joshua Avery and Brittany and Brett Hubbard; sister, Shelby Hardin of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Everett Avery; and his in-laws, Elles and Susan Schwenninger.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Benton Fitzgerrells. Interment will be at Hamms Grove Cemetery in Jefferson County.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
