“Randy” S. Farrar


Randall “Randy” S. Farrar, 53, of Mt. Vernon died 9:27 a.m. July 5, 2006, at his home.

He worked as a real estate developer and in property management.

Mr. Farrar was born May 17, 1953, in Mt. Vernon to Fletcher F. and Marjorie Lou (Swanson) Farrar.

A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Mr. Farrar is survived by his mother, Marjorie Lou Farrar of Mt. Vernon; a son, John Thomas Farrar of Mt. Vernon; a daughter, Jessica Lynn Farrar of Mt. Vernon; a sister, Barbara Schade and Herb of Neosho, Mo.; a brother, Fletcher “Bud” F. Farrar and wife Mary Jessup of Springfield; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Fletcher Farrar.

Mr. Farrar was a graduate of Northwestern University, where he studied English. He also attended Dartmouth School of Business, where he received his master’s degree in business. He also helped start the Mt. Vernon Unitarian Fellowship Church. He was also a member of Mitchell Museum, where he was helping with the new expansion. He was very active in the community and donated to many causes, including the Southern 30 Adolescent Center. He contributed to the Mt. Vernon First Presbyterian Church mission trip, the Granada Theater restoration efforts, Lincoln Park and the Mt. Vernon Downtown Development Commission.

For those who wish, memorials may be given to the Mt. Vernon Downtown Development or Mt. Vernon Unitarian Fellowship Church and will be accepted at the funeral home and may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
