Alma “Pitman” Laur, 89, of Mt.Vernon, formerly of Scheller, died at 7:20 a.m. Friday, February 8, 2008, at Mount Vernon Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon.
Alma was born May 14, 1918, in Scheller, the daughter of Benjamin Blain and Minnie Belle (Fleming) Laur. She was married to Lawrence Pitman; he preceded her in death on March 31, 2006.
She was a homemaker and also was a member of the United Methodist Church in Waltonville. She was active in the Waltonville Sunshine Center and a cook at Watonville School for many years.
Alma is survived by one daughter, Patricia Burton of Scheller; one granddaughter, Monica Rey-Wilson and husband Martin of St. Louis; two great grandchildren, Elliot and Galen Wilson; one sister, Mae Wright of Scheller; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Laur of Scheller; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lawrence Pitman, three brothers Ben laur, Cecil Woods and Harold Laur, one sister and Bertha Hoffman of Mt.Vernon.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville; Rev. Tom Miller will officiate.
Interment will follow at Bald Hill Cemetery in Scheller. Friends may call on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville.
For those wishing memorials may be given in memory of Alma Laur to the Bald Hill Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home.
