Helen Finn Ficken, age 87, of Iuka, passed away at 12:40 a.m. Thursday morning at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
She was born April 18, 1921, in Iuka, the daughter of William Edmond Beasley and Emily Viola Correll. She married George Finn on July 1, 1947, and he preceded her in death on April 9, 1979. She then married Elward “Slim” Ficken on Oct. 26, 1984, and he also preceded her in death.
Besides her husbands and parents, Mrs. Finn Ficken was also preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Mowry; three sisters, Beaulah Chadwick, Orpha Stewart and Blanche Pace; and by three brothers, Obert Beasley, Giles Beasley and Ted Beasley; and by one grandchild.
Mrs. Finn Ficken is survived by her three children, Bill Cothren and wife Teresa of Decatur, Stella Duncan and husband Paul of Kell and Sue Champ and husband Don of Woodlawn. She is also survived by a son-in-law, Gary Mowry of Decatur; one sister, Mildred Pierce of Iuka; grandchildren, Justin, Jared, Josh, Jessica, Emily and Devery Cothren; Steven Wilson, Tony, Rick and Doug Duncan, Jarred Champ, J.R. Mowry and Lisa Hoffman; and by 14 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Finn Ficken was a homemaker, living her entire life in the Kell area. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, the Cartter Home Extension Unit and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a special Christian lady loved by all who knew her.
Funeral services for Helen Finn Ficken will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church near Kell with the Rev. Randy Hayes officiating. Burial will follow at the Donoho Prairie Christian Church Cemetery, also near Kell.
Visitation will be held Saturday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the L. R. Osborn & Son Funeral Home in Kell.
For those who wish, memorials may be given to the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Willie J. "Bill" Ellis
Willie J. "Bill" Ellis, 85, of Du Quoin and a former resident of Mt. Vernon died 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Willie was born September 5, 1926 in Lilbourn, Missouri, the son of John E. and Alice Myrtle (Hicks) Ellis. He first married Edna M. (Crunk) on Sept. 3, 1951 in Piggott, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on Oct. 26, 1990. He later married Lorene (Porro) O'Rourke on Feb. 14, 1993, in Du Quoin, IL. She survives in Du Quoin. -

She was born Monday, Oct. 14, 1918, in Benton, the daughter of Jarvis and Callie (Harris) O’Neal. She married Russell A. wicks on Feb. 22, 1942; he preceded her in death July 7, 1979. She married Myron Dale Gilliam on Nov. 11, 1980; he preceded her in death on Dec. 26, 2011. -
