William M. “Bill” Campbell,86, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.
He was born June 2, 1926, in McLeansboro, the son of Paul and Aileen (Martin) Campbell. He married Delores M. “Dee” Munsell on Feb. 6, 1949, in McLeansboro.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years; his sister, Paula (Jim) Mason; brother, Jack Campbell of McLeansboro; sister-in-law, Barbara (Alex) Sloan; and several nieces and nephews, all of which were very special to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant daughter, Kelley Ann; two sisters, Sharron Beck and Bettie Hill; niece, Mary Jo Beck; and great-nephew, Kyle Beck.
He graduated McLeansboro Township High School class 1944, served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and attended S.I.U. Carbondale. He was engaged in the oil industry for both U.S. Steel and J. L. Steel Companies. At retirement, he came to Mt. Vernon as manager for Independent Supply Company until his final retirement in 1997.
Bill had a great interest in sports and always enjoyed golfing with family and special friends. He enjoyed fellowship with his coffee buddies. He was a lifetime member of the Mt. Vernon Elks Lodge.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Central Christian Church in Mt. Vernon with Pastor Randy Sells officiating, family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of service.
Graveside military rites accorded by American Legion Post 106 of McLeansboro will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Christian Church Children’s Building Fund.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Hare Funeral Home –McLeansboro.
