Charles Wesley Donoho, 89, of Mt. Vernon, died 9:15 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor in Mt. Vernon.
He was born Saturday, March 3, 1923, in Desloge, Mo., the son of Alfred and Gertrude (McDaniel) Donoho. He married Kathleen Sledge on May 10, 1947, in Mt. Vernon, and she preceded him in death on March 4, 2003.
Charles was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving mainly in the Philippines from 1943 to 1946. He later was a plant manager at Illinois Concrete Company in Champaign for over 25 years until retiring. He was a past member of American Legion Post 1015 in Mahomet, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1376 in Mt. Vernon and Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon.
He is survived by daughter, Carol A. Penfold and husband Ronald of Minot, N.D.; granddaughter, Lisa Estrada of Decatur, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Zoe Estrada and Serena Estrada of Decatur, Texas; brother, Alfred L. Donoho and wife Dorothy of Bonnie; sisters-in-law, Margie Carrell of Mt. Vernon and Wilma Wheeler of Mt. Vernon; brother-in-law, Jim Sledge and wife Linda of Mt. Vernon; close friend, Ruth Ann Bain of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one granddaughter, Amy Penfold; on brother, Gaylord Donoho; and sister, Beulah Johnson.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. David Shores officiating. Interment will be at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Members of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141 will conduct full military honors at the cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service Tuesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
