Myrtle E. Shelton, 82, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at her home Friday, Feb. 22, 2013. She worked beside her husband on the farm throughout her married life. She was also a homemaker and worked as a housekeeper at St. Mary Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon for eight years.
Mrs. Shelton was born May 25, 1930, in Wayne County, to Charles and Mable Hutson. She married Lester F. Shelton on May 14, 1950, in Keenes, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 19, 2003.
She is survived by three sons, Charles "Charlie" Shelton of Waltonville, Lewis "Louie" Shelton and wife Brenda of Henryville, Ind. and Lester "Ike" Shelton and wife Lisa of Bluford; five daughters, Mary Thomas and husband Art of Bluford, Eileen Wilson and husband Brad of Mt. Vernon, Arleen Robertson and husband Kerry of Belle Rive, Pearl Meeks and husband Mark of Opdyke and Sandra Stebbins and husband John of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, Kelly Baltzell and husband Donnie of Opdyke, Pam Baltzell of Waltonville, Junior Shelton of Waltonville, Melvin Shelton of Indiana, Billy Shelton and wife Darian of Waltonville, Threasa Williams and husband Matt of Mt. Vernon, Melissa Shelton of Mt. Vernon, Lillian Lingo and husband John of Nason, Lorie Royal of Odin, Cindy Lopez and husband Mark of Chesterton, Ind. Tyler Shelton of Bluford, Brandon Shelton of Bluford, Amanda Day and husband Darrell of Mt. Vernon, Amber Mays and husband Josh of Opdyke, Kaci Lemons and husband Stephen of Mt. Vernon and Caleb Linville of Mt. Vernon; stepgranddaughter, Mary Jo Stebbins of Mt. Vernon; great-grandchildren, Donavan, Jordan, Cody, Joshua, Brittany, Annie, Angelica, Sydney, Lizzie, Jodi, Levi, Hunter, Bentlea and Gracelynn; great-great-grandchild, Marlee; brother, Lewis Hutson and wife Jean of Wayne City; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother, Ralph Hutson; and a sister in infancy.
Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Mr. Marty Mills officiating. Interment will be at Harmony Cemetery in Jefferson County.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
