Gary Huntman, 63, of Mt. Vernon, died 5:50 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2013, in Mt. Vernon.
He was born Tuesday, Dec. 27, 1949, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Charles J. and Dorothy M. (Mannen) Huntman. He was first married to Rebecca Ann Garwood and later to Romona Huntman.
Gary served in the Illinois National Guard and owned and operated Gary Huntman Plumbing until retiring. He was active with the Habitat for Humanity program, was past president of the Home Builders Association and was a member and former deacon at First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Vernon.
He is survived by his mother, Dorothy “Dottie” Huntman Bennett of Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Monica Maxey and husband Scott of Mt. Vernon and Celeste Brumbaugh and husband Beechworth IV of Woodlawn; grandson, Damon Wright of Mt. Vernon; three granddaughters, Gabrielle Brumbaugh, Isabella Brumbaugh and Emma Maxey; two brothers, Michael Huntman and wife Charlotte of Mt. Vernon and Donald Huntman and wife Terri of Woodlawn; four stepdaughters, Belinda Shaw, Romona Shaw, Chunta McWilliams and Cherre McWilliams, all of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces, nephews and stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Stacy Tate and the Rev. Andrew Clark officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn. The chaplain of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141 will conduct a flag presentation ceremony at the cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tonight at First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Vernon.
For those who wish, memorials may be given to the Habitat for Humanity or to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
