Ailene Arnold, 77, of Mt. Vernon, passed away on Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
Mrs. Arnold was born on Nov. 19, 1934, the daughter of Ralph and Thelma (Hale) Crider. She married Wayne Arnold on Nov. 24, 1955, at Second Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon.
Mrs. Arnold was a member of the Logan Street Baptist Church. She loved her “Three Bs” -bowling, bridge and bingo almost as much as line dancing and her St. Louis Cardinals. She was the chair of the Reunion Committee for Mt. Vernon Township High School Class of 1952. She was also a member of the Senior Circle at Crossroads Community Hospital.
Mrs. Arnold is survived by her husband Wayne Arnold; son, Gary Arnold and partner Dan Benefield; granddaughter, Lydia Arnold Cronic Newsom and husband Matt; twin sister, Irene Richardson and husband Norman; sister, Jean Gregory Collins Kennedy and husband Richard; sister-in-law, Bette (Bumpus) Crider; brother-in-law, Bill Story; cousins, Mary Page Kindred, Rev. Richard Lance and Joyce Santor and husband Roland; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Charles Leroy (Chuck) Crider; and sister, Velma Story.
Funeral services for Mrs. Arnold will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Logan Street Baptist Church with Ailene’s cousin Rev. Richard Lance officiating. Jim Waugh will be celebrating her life. Music will be provided by Sherry Walker West, Susan Wells and her son Rev. Gary W. Arnold.
Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Woodlawn. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Logan Street Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mrs. Arnold’s honor may be made to the Senior Circle at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon. Envelopes will be provided and memorials will be accepted at the church or by contacting Johnston Funeral Home at any time.
