David Lee Grebe, 77, of Mt. Vernon, died 10:35 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion.
He was born Friday, Nov. 29, 1935, in Golden Eagle, son of John and Dorothy (Crocker) Grebe. He married Helen Zapf on July 5, 1957, in Festus, Mo. and she preceded him in death on Sept. 21, 1990. He married Doris Lee Bond (McCowen) on March 24, 1995, and she preceded him in death on June 26, 2007.
David served in the U.S. Army and was an independent automobile insurance adjuster. He was a member of Park Avenue Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon, a member and past president of the Old Timers Car Club and the King City Cruisers.
He is survived by son, Sam Grebe and wife Suzanne of Milford, Mich.; daughter, Sue Wilson and husband Greg of Woodlawn; six grandchildren, Mindy Wilson of Woodlawn, Amanda Wilson of St. Louis, Megan Wilson of Centralia, Mallory Wilson of Woodlawn, Cody Grebe of Marysville, Ohio and Casey Grebe of Milford, Mich.; four great-grandchildren, Macie, Cayden, Cora and Donnie; five brothers, Bob Grebe of Oklahoma, Dick Grebe of Missouri, Jack Grebe of Missouri, Michael Grebe of Arkansas and Bill Grebe of Colorado; foster brother, Dan Hodges of Texas; sisters, Betty Noble of Nevada and Carol Bell of Missouri; sister-in-law, Sarah Sneider and husband Harry of California; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and both wives.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Park Avenue Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Gary Davenport officiating. Interment will be at Old Union Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. The chaplain of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141 will conduct a flag presentation service at the cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
