Arthur Clark “Art” Mendenhall, 87, of Bonnie, passed away 10:25 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at his daughter’s home in Woodlawn, surrounded by all his children.
He was born in Bonnie on Jan. 6, 1925, the son of Emote and Dora (Johnston) Mendenhall. He married Syble (Hays) on Aug. 8, 1959, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 29, 1994.
Mr. Mendenhall retired from General Radiator. He was a Navy veteran. His greatest joy in life was his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Mendenhall is survived by his daughter, Kathy Arnett and husband Terry of Woodlawn; three stepdaughters, Dorothy Fairchild of Waltonville, Karen Nelson and husband Johnnie of Waltonville and Shirley Pontious of Mt. Vernon; stepson, George N. Anselment, Jr. of Blue Eyes, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Wanda Gregory of Minnesota.
Mr. Mendenhall was preceded in death by parents; his wife, Syble Mendenhall; daughter-in-law, Becky Anselment; sons-in-law, Bob Fairchild and Roger Pontious; five brothers, Elmo, Owen, Doris, Waldo and Roy; and three sisters, Enid Lynch, Edna Mae Reynolds and Evelyn June Williams.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Woodlawn with the Rev. Ted Anderson officiating. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 141. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Johnston Funeral Home in Ina.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mr. Mendenhall's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the funeral home at any time.
