Clara Marie Hohman Highland, 89, of Pea Ridge, Ark., and formerly of Nashville, passed away at 6 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Autumn Place in Pea Ridge.
She was born Jan. 31, 1923, in New Minden, the daughter of Henry and Carrie Siegman Schuette.
She first married Raymond Hohman on June 21, 1941, and he passed away on July 19, 1976. She then married Bert Highland Jr., on May 1, 1993, and he passed away on Jan. 9, 2004. Also preceding her in death were her parents; five brothers, Henry, Hubert, Arvie, Roland and Homer Schuette; and a sister, Alvera Rodak.
Left to mourn her passing is a son, Melvin R. “Butch” (Donna) Hohman of Mt. Vernon; a daughter, Jan (James) Sij of Garfield, Ark.; four grandchildren, Kurt Sij, Victoria England and Zach and Matt Hohman; five great-grandchildren, Matthew Sij, Hayden, Hunter and Peyton England and Grace Hohman; and a sister, Nola Kraft of New Minden.
Clara formerly worked at Gutzler Bakery and later the IGA, both in Nashville. She was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Nashville, where she was active in the Dorcas Circle and volunteered at the Hoyleton Children’s Home. She was also a member of the Raccoon Rambler’s Camping Club.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the St. Paul United Church of Christ with the Rev. Sue Artt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to her church or the St. Paul UCC Cemetery fund.
