Maxine Lenington

MT. VERNON — — Neva Maxine Lenington, 83, of  Mt. Vernon and a former resident Waltonville, passed away 8:05 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Maxine  was born Jan. 23, 1929, in Waltonville, the daughter of Charley and Ruth (Pitman) Panzier. She married Verner Nolan Lenington on Dec. 24, 1946, in Morganfield, Ky., and he preceded her in death on Sept. 10,  1988.

Mrs. Lenington first worked at American Laundry in Mt. Vernon and then later worked for the International Shoe Company. She was baptized at the West Long Prairie Christian Church. Maxine was a member of the Mt. Vernon Gun and Sportsman's Club, VFW Auxiliary Post 9153 Waltonville, AMVETS Auxiliary 4 Mt. Vernon and American Legion Auxiliary Post 141 Mt. Vernon.

She is survived by a daughter, Glenda and husband Jerry Chastain of  Sesser; son, Sidney Lenington of Bonnie; sister, Dorothy Nadolski of Ashley; brother, Billy Panzier of Ashley; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and also two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Nolan; five brothers, Ted, Ernest, Virgil, Wilburn and Johnny Panzier; and one sister, Helen Felty.   

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Mr. Stacy Garner officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Woodlawn.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association and will be accepted at the funeral home.
