MT. VERNON — —
Kenneth Maurice Fry, 85, of Mt. Vernon, departed this life and went to be with the Lord at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013.
He was born Wednesday, Nov. 9, 1927, in Jefferson County, son of Alva Roy and Rutha May Fry. He married Margaret Mae Hall on Sept. 10, 1950, in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on Nov. 4, 2006.
Kenneth worked for the Vernois Stove Foundry for many years until its closing and later worked for Mt. Vernon Electric until his retirement. He was an avid hunter, loved the outdoors and was a member of the Christian faith. He loved his family and friends and never knew a stranger.
He is survived by three daughters, Kathy Lynn Welch and husband Dan of Mt. Vernon, Judy Kay McLaughlin and husband Russell “Gene” of Mt. Vernon and Susan Marie Hofer and husband Dave of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, Jason Welch and wife Crystal of Shoreline, Wash., Tara Hardin and husband Adam of Fairbanks, Alaska, Kayley Wilson of West Frankfort, Keith Hofer, Nathan Hofer and wife Ashley and Stephen Hofer; great-grandchildren, Gavin Wilson of West Frankfort and Lucas and Andrew Hofer; brother, Onis Ray Fry; and three nieces and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; four sisters, Evelyn Highsmith, Mildred Wood, Dorothy Smith and Gladys Derry; brother, Wayne Fry; infant brother, Donald Fry; and nephew, Marshall Highsmith.
In honor of Kenneth’s wishes, no public services will be held. Interment will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.
For those who wish, memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
