Harold Boldwyn

Harold L. “Doc” Boldwyn, 86, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon.

He was born Saturday, Aug. 14, 1926, in Sparta, to John W. and Esther Dorothy (Gerlach) Boldwyn.

He married Shirley Walston on Aug. 13, 1953, in Las Vegas, Nev.

Harold worked as the owner and operator of Audio Hearing Center and was a board certified hearing instrument specialist. He received several awards during his 60 years of service to the hearing impaired. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and a fourth degree knight with the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the International Hearing Aid Society as well as the Illinois Hearing Aid Society. He graduated from the Illinois School for the Deaf in Jacksonville. He was a member of the Mt. Vernon Rotary Club.

Harold was very active and generous in the I Care International program for three years, helping underprivileged children in Mexico. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and being with his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Boldwyn of Mt. Vernon; a son, Scott Boldwyn and wife Joyce of Collinsville; three daughters, Jackie Jenkins and husband Bob of Greeneville, Tenn., Robin Herzing and husband Mike of Mt. Vernon and Faye Boldwyn-Stephens and husband Martin of Mt. Vernon; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a sister, Iola Rosen of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

His parents; two sons, Butch and Randy Boldwyn; two grandchildren, Noelle and Paul Boldwyn; one great-grandchild, Danielle Felty; two sisters, Cleo Price and Cleva Brown; and one daughter-in-law, Karen Boldwyn, preceded him in death.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon with Fr. John Iffert officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. A fourth degree chalice service will be held by the Mt. Vernon Knights of Columbus at 8 p.m.
