Mary H. Champ, 90, of Woodlawn, died 11:30 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2013, at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor in Mt. Vernon.
She was born Thursday, Oct. 5, 1922, in Hoodville, the daughter of Jesse and Eva Pauline (Goss) McMahan. She married Lester Lee Champ on Oct. 3, 1944, in Peoria, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 18, 1990.
Mary worked at the Mode-O-Day Garment Factory in Mt. Vernon for 20 years and later was a bus driver for Woodlawn High School for 30 years. She was a member of Woodlawn Christian Church.
She is survived by two sons, Dennis M. Champ and wife Karen of Woodlawn and Darrell R. Champ and wife Edna of Woodlawn; two daughters, Dixie Benjamin and husband Kenneth of Woodlawn and Deanna Hammond and husband Eldon of Woodlawn; two brothers, John McMahan of Lacon and Roy McMahan and wife Nancy of Peoria; sister, Ruby Pfolsgrof of Mt. Vernon; four sisters-in-law, Fayelda Elliston of Woodlawn, Lillian “Punk” Clark of Woodlawn, Shirley Champ Waddel of Greenville and Barb Champ of Woodlawn; 13 grandchildren, Kimberly Falconer and husband David, Michelle Benjamin, Kenny Benjamin and wife Beth, Wade Champ and wife Christy, Heather Rogers and husband Wes, Tasha Hammond, Chrystal Kitowski and husband Andy, Cody Champ and wife Alicia, Kaylee Cox and husband Jeff, Casey Hammond and fiancee Hannah, Shelby Hammond, Billy Sharp and Brian Champ; 22 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one granddaughter, Shae Braddy; three brothers, Ray, Frank and Bill McMahan; three sisters, Polly Parkhill, Goldie Morris and Pearl Wilson; and one stepbrother, Harold Poorman.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Rick Champ and the Rev. Tim Champ officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
