Rev. George Lee Tuggle

MT. VERNON — The Rev. George Lee Tuggle, 87, of McLeansboro, passed away at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at Hamilton Memorial Nursing Center in McLeansboro.

He was born Feb. 22, 1924, to Lee and Tamsey (Buttry) Tuggle.

He was a World War II veteran, and received a silver Battle Star.

He was a semi truck driver for Pepper Ridge Farms at Downer’s Grove. He also drove a school bus for Hamilton County Schools.

He was ordained as a minister  on Dec. 5, 1992. He served as a pastor for Brush Harbor, Enfield Baptist and Norris City General Baptist Churches.

He was a member of Enfield General Baptist Church.

He married Rosalee Boyer and she survives.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Shirley Ingram of McLeansboro; three grandchildren, Shannon Braden and husband Darrell of McLeansboro, Tony Ingram and wife Shelly of Chapman, Kan., and Sumer Schau and husband Chris of Tuscola; six great-grandchildren, Ashtynn and Jenna Braden, Allyssa and Avery Ingram, and Ethan and Skylar Schau; brother Charley Tuggle and wife Brenda of Goreville; and sister Katherine Mitchell and husband Ted of McLeansboro.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Villo, Joe, Chalon, Monroe and Nick Tuggle.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Revs. Wendy Reed, Wayne Vaupel and Steve Shoultz officiating.

Interment will follow at Brush Harbor Cemetery near McLeansboro, with graveside military rites conducted by the American Legion Post #106.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
