MT. VERNON — Herbert Morgan, 91, of Mt. Vernon, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, at 10:10 p.m. at White Oak Nursing Home in Mt. Vernon.

Herbert was born April 10, 1920, in Waukegan, the son of Dewey and Lilly Morgan. Dewey and Lilly Morgan; a brother, Charles and wife Dorothy Morgan; and their daughter, Sherry Jo; and son, David Morgan preceded him in death.

Surviving family members include his sons, Mark Morgan and wife Cama of West Des Moines, Iowa, Karl Morgan and special friend Michelle Elliston of Mt. Vernon; a special thanks to Diana Morgan of Highland;  seven grandchildren, Anna Langa and husband Ryan of Bluford, Valerie Webb and fiancé Shawn Fhone of St. Jacob, Laura Fry and husband Michael of Crystal Lake, Penny Craig and husband Kevin of Portland, Ore., Sara Metcalf and husband Josh of Ardmore, Okla., Mike Morgan and wife Emily of Tulsa, Okla., and Melanie Morgan of Columbia, Mo.; and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Morgan was a World War II army veteran, serving with the 65th Armored Field Artillery Battalion in the African and European theatres.

It was Mr. Morgan’s request to be cremated, and at his request, no services will be held.

Johnston Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon is in charge of arrangements.
