John Irvin Benjamin, 47, of Dix, died of a sudden heart attack on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at his home.
He was born Feb. 21, 1966, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Irvin C. and Nell Dean (Peay) Benjamin.
He attended high school in Rawlins, Wyo. and he worked for Collins and Herman Fencing Company for 23 years. He attended Central Christian Church and Campground Baptist Church.
John was known as a good mechanic and loved to work on engines. He enjoyed finding items on the side of the road and calling it “Treasure Hunting”. He was willing to help anyone in need and enjoyed life and a good joke on a friend.
He is survived by his fiancee, Tracy Shafer, and they were to be married on March 30 of this year; two sons, John Carroll Benjamin of Dix and Cody Benjamin and fiancee Ashley Dorris of Bluford; three grandchildren, Jace and Savannah Benjamin of Dix and Brantley Benjamin of Bluford; one brother, Aaron Benjamin and wife Tonya of Dix; three sisters, Debbie Phillips and husband Ted of Dix, Cheryl Hester and husband Jim of Mt. Vernon and Netji Benjamin of Nashville, Tenn.; a special family friend, Stephanie Houston; special aunt and uncle, Ann and Walter Pogue; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix with Benton Fitzjerrells officiating. Burial will follow at Boyd Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
