Yvonne Valaida Rice joined the Lord and her dearly departed husband, Earl Rice, Jr. on March 2, 2013.
Yvonne was born Sept. 5, 1934, and raised in Mt. Vernon. The daughter of the late Edith Owens James (Ed-die) and Eulester Bell, she graduated from Mt. Vernon Township High School. She accepted Christ at an early age and established her church home at Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Springfield.
Yvonne entered into marriage with Earl Rice, Jr. on Aug. 5, 1960, forming a family of nine children. Yvonne retired from a 30-year career in state and federal government as executive administrator for Alan Dixon in 1993.
She is survived by her children, La Verne, Darrell, Kerry and Yolanda; stepchildren, Anson, Michael and Sabena; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 12 noon with services to follow. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Walker Funeral Service, Springfield, is in charge of arrangements.
