MT. VERNON —
William R. “Bill” Smith, 73, of McLeansboro, passed away at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at his residence.
He was born June 4, 1939, in Davenport, Iowa, to Noel Smith and Marguerite (Cross) Smith.
He married Bonnie Jean Russell on Aug. 8, 1965, in McLeansboro.
He attended Mt. Olivet Church and worked as an oil field tool dresser. He loved fishing and watching his grandchildren play sports, especially basketball.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Smith of McLeansboro; one daughter, Tonya Renee Martin and husband Jr. of McLeansboro; two granddaughters, Amanda Marie Glass and Sarah Diane Glass of McLeansboro; former son-in-law, Tom Glass and wife Tesa of Mt. Vernon; one sister, Mary Horn of McLeansboro; five brothers, Tom Smith and wife Vera of Dale, Clyde “Dick” Smith of Toledo, Ohio, Dale Smith and wife Evelyn of Chicago, Alan Smith of Fairfield and Noel Smith Jr., “Jr.,” and wife Deanna of Fairfield; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Trena Diane Smith; his parents; a brother, Ronnie Smithl and a sister, Molly Smith.
Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. today at the funeral home with the Rev. Andy May officiating. Burial will follow at Smith Cemetery in Dale.
Arrangements for “Bill” Smith are under the direction of Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
