Kenneth E. Oliver, 82, of Mt. Vernon, died 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at Nature Trail Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon.
He was born Friday, Oct. 31, 1930, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Roy and Grace (Green) Oliver. He married his first wife June Owens on June 1, 1956, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 8, 2001. He married Laverne Kuykendall on Nov. 16, 2003, in Mt. Vernon and she survives.
Kenneth worked as a newspaper deliverer for the St. Louis Post Dispatch and the Mt. Vernon Register-News for thirty years. He was a member of Casey Avenue Baptist Church.
He is survived by wife, Laverne Oliver of Mt. Vernon; sons, Kevin E. Oliver and wife Cheryl of Mt. Vernon, Jeffrey E. Oliver and wife Stephanie of Vergennes and Michael E. Oliver and wife Mary of Marietta, Ga.; daughter, Lisa Capps and husband Neal of Opdyke; stepsons, Roy Bitner and wife Diana of Mt. Vernon and Arlen Bitner and wife Patty of Fairfield; 17 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; daughter, Linda Oliver; stepson, Bryan Bitner; and stepdaughter, Arlene Bitner.
In honor of Kenneth’s wishes, his body will be donated to science at Southern Illinois University Carbondale and no services will take place at this time. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
For those who wish, memorials may be given to the Casey Avenue Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
