MT. VERNON —
John David Ohley, 90, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 12:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at his home in Mt. Vernon with his family at his side.
He was born Thursday, April 20, 1922, in Alton, to Walter S. and Lucy (Henry) Ohley.
He married Lois I. Ayers on April 22, 1950, in Mt. Vernon.
John was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II as a communications technician and radio intelligence specialist, first class, stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and Washington, D.C. He was a lifetime member of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141, a lifetime member of Mt. Vernon Moose Lodge 755 (L.O.O.M.), a member of the American Legion and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Ohley of Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Denise Elliott and husband Ed of Mt. Vernon and Kristi M. Lisiecki and husband Jim of Bath, Penn.; four grandchildren, Aaron Elliott and wife Angela of Bolingbrook, Blake Elliott and wife Melissa of Mt. Vernon, Allison Lisiecki and special friend Chris Farkas of Bath, Penn., and Kyle Lisiecki of Bath, Penn.; six great-grandchildren, Caden, Connor, Jordyn and Haley Elliott of Bolingbrook and Emily and Brody Elliott of Mt. Vernon; half sister Sandra L. Wingate and husband Gerry of Saline, Mich.; sister-in-law, Janet Ayers of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
His parents; two brothers, James and Joe Ohley; and his stepmother, Margaret Ohley, preceded him in death.
A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Church in Mt. Vernon with Fr. John Iffert officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, with members of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141 conducting full military honors at the cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.
