MT. VERNON —
Doris Marjorie (Chambliss) Stirewalt, 91, of Mt. Vernon, died at 11:50 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at White Oak Rehabilitation and Health Care Center of Mt. Vernon.
She was born on Aug. 13, 1921, in St. Joseph, the daughter of Oscar and Cora Ida (Purcell) Chambliss. In 1941, she married Ronald Chambliss, and he preceded her in death. In 1963, she married Dean Stirewalt, and he preceded her in death.
Mrs. Stirewalt worked at the International Shoe Factory until it closed. She then worked at Austin’s Restaurant until retirement. She was a member of Marlow United Methodist Church until it closed. She enjoyed sewing clothes for her daughters and grandchildren, as well as making quilts and embroidering. She also enjoyed singing and could really yodel.
Mrs. Stirewalt is survived by two daughters, Ladonna Marlow and husband Don of Texico and Sheila Byars and husband Henry of Marlow; two stepdaughters-in-law, Peggy Howard of Mt. Vernon and Connie Hawkins of Mt. Vernon; 10 grandchildren, Rich Marlow and wife Sharon of Centralia, Kim Kern and husband Jim of Arrowsmith, Greg Marlow and wife Deborah of Dix, Tammy Austin and husband Brad of Marlow, Craig Byars and wife Kathy of Mt. Vernon, David Wilkens and wife Gloria of Fallon, Nevada, Bryan Stirewalt of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, UAE, Tony Stirewalt and wife Jackie of Portland, Ore., Vickie Stirewalt of State College, Penn., and Barry Stirewalt and wife Susan of Weatherford, Texas; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Moneda Hawkins of Texico; three nieces, Janice Simmons of Texico, Mary Jane Musgrave of Fairfield and Judith McDonough of Baton Rouge, La.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; one brother, Talmodge (T.O.) Chambliss; one sister, Vivian Byars; two grandchildren, Debra Marlow and Jeff Marlow; and two stepsons, Glen Stirewalt and Norman Stirewalt.
Funeral services for Mrs. Stirewalt will be held at 1 p.m. today at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix, with the Rev. Bud Storey officiating. Interment will follow at Union Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral this morning.
