MT. VERNON —
Marcella Simpson, 87, a longtime Fairfield resident, died Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at 2:20 p.m. in the emergency room at Fairfield Memorial Hospital.
She was born Aug. 6, 1922, in Hamilton County to the late Ottie and Lala Barr. At the age of 10, her parents moved the family to Fairfield. On Dec. 14, 1941, she married Harlan Simpson. They made their home south of Fairfield in the New Hope area. They were life members of New Hope General Baptist Church.
Marcella was a charter member of the Hall Home Extension Unit and a member of the original board of the Clothes Line. She was a wonderful seamstress, making lots of crafts and many beautiful quilts. She and Harlan were longtime members of the Wabash Wanders Camping Club.
She is survived by her husband, Harland; a son Stephen (Jackie) Simpson of Plantersville, Ala.; daughters, Marilyn (Andy) Tyler of Salem and Marsha (John) Scattone of McLeansboro; one sister, Annabelle Carter of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marcella was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Dale and Eldon Barr; an infant brother; and sisters, Vergene Goin and Vermadele Haegele.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield.
Visitation will be tonight from 5 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the New Hope General Baptist Church.
