MT. VERNON —
Betty Bernice (Smith) Stanford, age 83, of Iuka, passed away 8:05 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at her home in Iuka.
Betty was born June 22, 1929, in Good Hope, to Frances Smith and Ollie Florine Smith. She married Irvin E. Stanford Sept. 17, 1946, in Mayfield, Ky., and he survives in Iuka.
Betty was a retired school teacher teaching in the Carlyle and North Wamac grade schools. She and her husband owned and operated the House of Plunder in Iuka. She also enjoyed crafting and hand painting shirts.
Betty is survived by her husband, Irvin E. Stanford of Iuka; son, Eugene Stanford and wife Cathy of Woodlawn; daughters, Sandra Springer and husband Larry of Iuka and Susan Beighley and husband Brent of Texico; grandchildren, Gene Stanford and wife Emily, Ryan Stanford and wife Trisha, Larry Lee Springer and wife Michelle, Samantha Stanford, Elizabeth Springer, Rebecca Beighley, Keri Beighley and Jacob Beighley. She was also survived by great-grandchildren, Aundrea Sprinkle, Chelsea Sprinkle, Isabella Stanford, Lily Stanford, Vivienne Stanford, Luke Stanford, Wyatt Stanford; and a great-great-granddaughter, Chyann Sprinkle.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at L.R. Osborn Funeral Home in Kell, with Brother Chuck Smith officiating. Interment will follow at the Palestine Cemetery in Iuka.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at L.R. Osborn Funeral Home in Kell.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Palestine Cemetery Association and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to LR Osborn Funeral Home, PO Box 39, Kell, IL 62853.
